CADSHELL: THE CAD FILE MANAGEMENT SOLUTION
Drawing File Management Systems vary in several ways.
Enclosed in this package, you will find Cadshell 2.1. In the
January 1991 issue CADENCE Magazine tested 5 Cad Management
Systems. We invite you to read the article, analyze these
softwares; then compare them to Cadshell 2.1. I personally have
managed an Autocad based office of 10+ draftsmen and found this
type of software a must to maintain order. In nearly two years
of using this software we have not lost a single drawing due to
someone failing to back-up, or two people working on a drawing
simultaneously. The system simply makes simultaneous usage
impossible, and drawings requiring a backup plainly visable.
Four of five systems in the article require your fileserver
to be setup in the way that they see fit. For instance some of
the other softwares only allow a drawing to be edited from the
fileserver (i.e. no downloading to a local harddrive). This can
create unwarranted network traffic and slow everybody down. Some
people prefer to check out the drawings and download them to a
local drive permitting users to continue to operate even when the
network is down. This presents a drawing management headache,
who has what drawing and what is the latest copy of it? Enter
Cadshell 2.1 the drawing management solution. With Cadshell
drawings are monitored and checked in and out just as you would a
book from a library. Cadshell becomes your company's Cad police.
Three of five softwares were able to launch Autocad. Of
course, Cad-Shell has this capability also. Most of the systems
performed basic Dos copies, formats, etc. Cadshell works as a
windowing environment allowing you to use the Dos-Shell of your
choice for your Dos utilities. Cadshell also features "smart"
back-up and clean-up of your hard-drive. Cadshell knows if
drawings are properly backed-up. If not you will clearly see that
they are still checked out and should be backed up.
Most of the systems in the article require networking.
Cad-Shell is equally at home on a network system or your local
sneaker network. Some of the other systems feature a built in
drawing viewer program.
Cadshell 2.1 is able to access any optional viewer program like
AutoVue from Cimmetry Systems for example. Simply enter the path
to the favorite viewer of choice in your Cadshell configuration
and Cadshell will use that viewer. Cadshell 2.1 is the only
system available with 2-way data flow into and out of the
drawings. Cadshell features a built in drawing data manager
that will extract and return Database information directly into
your drawings. This information may then be exported to an
external database manager such a Dbase IV or Paradox for further
processing. What about handchanges? Every office gets
in a panic now and then and must hand modify a plot directly.
Only Cadshell 2.1 offers a built in handchange flag that tags
these drawings and presents a warning screen to the next user
that a drawing has been hand-modified. This prevents changes
from being accidently lost.
Overall, you will find that Cad-Shell offers the most
in capabilities as well as flexibility; bringing you, the
user the most control possible. All of this for only
$99.95, a substantial savings over all the others. More for your
money and a better price too. Isn't that the best of both
worlds? But I don't need a drawing management system you say.
That's why we are offering this Shareware version of Cadshell
because many companies do not realize the lost productivity due
to not having this type of system installed. We all know that
lost productivity is lost profit. So here it is play
with it and decide for yourself if this system might not be the
answer to some of your cad management headaches.
